🇦🇺 Australia Expands Accepted English Tests for Student Visas

From August 7, 2025, the Australian Government has officially expanded the list of accepted English language tests for student visa applications. This change provides more flexibility for international students and widens the path to study in Australia (Economic Times).

While IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE Academic remain popular options, new alternatives have been added to give applicants greater choice based on their strengths and accessibility.

📋 What Has Changed?

Previously, only a limited set of tests were recognised for visa purposes. Now, students can choose from an extended list of approved English language exams, which includes:

IELTS Academic (existing)
TOEFL iBT (existing)
Pearson PTE Academic (existing)
Cambridge C1 Advanced (newly recognised)
Occupational English Test – OET (newly recognised)

The new options are valid for applications submitted after August 7, 2025. Test results obtained before this date from these newly added tests will not be accepted.
